Halle Berry Biography
With her stunning looks and vibrant personality, Halle Berry was destined for stardom. She began her entertainment career by winning the Miss Teen All-American Pageant in 1985 and becoming the first runner-up in the Miss USA Pageant the following year. After appearing in a short-lived television series and Knot's Landing , Berry got her big film break in Spike Lee's Jungle Fever in 1991. This led to several more movies, including Executive Decision with Kurt Russell and Bulworth with Warren Beatty.
In 1999, Berry received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Dorothy Dandridge in the television drama Introducing Dorothy Dandridge. She won an Emmy and Golden Globe for her role as the singer/dancer/actress, who in 1955 was the first African American to ever be nominated for an Academy Award. In a twist of fate, Berry became the first black woman to win a best actress Oscar; she received it for her part in 2001's Monster's Ball.
In addition to her serious roles, Berry has also made time to play lighter, interesting characters, such as a sexy Bond girl in Die Another Day , a powerful superhero in X-Men and Catwoman , and a charismatic robot in the animated film Robots.
